One of the most famous and popular live Everlong performances was their 2008 Wembley performance in London, England. The Youtube video shown below has been viewed almost 13 million times.
Where was this Footage Captured?
The concert was recorded over a two-day period during the summer of 2008, in London England's most famous outdoor venue, Wembley Stadium. Wembley Stadium has played host to an endless list of epic sporting and concert events, from the Olympics and English and American football events, to historic music events such as Live Aid and the concert to remember Princess Diana.
When did this Concert Take Place?
The footage shown was from a concert series that took place between two shows in 2008, on June 6th and June 7th. The concert footage was captured as part of a larger production DVD, which was completed and released over a month later on August 25th, 2008.
Instruments
Like many other live renditions of Everlong, Dave Grohl plays the first several verses and choruses unaccompanied in a darkened stage. During this specific recording, Dave plays his part on an electric guitar with heavy distortion.
When the rest of the bandmates join in, they are using their traditional instruments during this recording - including heavy drums and background electric guitars and bass also with heavy distortion.
What Makes this Live Version Notable?
Since it was being recorded professionally for future DVD release, the production quality of the video and audio is superb. Dozens of angles were used in filming, giving both up-close footage as well as panned back footage that revealed the tens of thousands of fans occupying the entire general field of Wembley, including the seated areas, making for an awe-inspiring visual statement living up to the hallowed grounds of Wembley.
Grohl's performance during this version of Everlong was spectacular, especially during the half of the song where he plays and sings alone. Grohl plays his part dozens of meters down a long catwalk that shoots out into the massive crowd, as he often pauses for tens of seconds at a time, staring in wonder at the crowd surrounding him, teasing them with the epic upcoming moments still to come. As he does in many concerts, he somehow manages to chew gum violently while playing and singing in perfect fashion, as if sitting peacefully in a quiet studio.
